VR & AR
So my title for this blog post is a little misleading because I’m not really describing them I’m just going to be highlighting where my media sources use them.
As mentioned numerous times in my previous blogs, Pokemon Go is an excellent example of augmented reality. It is seamless, it uses the user’s rear-facing camera to capture the world around it and display augmented Pokemon into that world through the phone screen. It was the first large-scale consumer game to do so and it has been out for over six years in 2022, the game has come a long way from its initial release in 2016. Previously the only uses for augmented reality were to display a pokemon you encounter and “Gym” battles. Today there are trainer battles included in the game where you can fight other real people’s pokemon through the phone which displays it in augmented reality. Within trainer battles, there are fully animated attacking moves and pokemon.

There are no other media sources that I follow that use AR although I’m sure Disney has plenty that I am not seeing because I don’t keep track of them religiously. However, I did see an ad for an adobe product that I think would be perfect for use on websites like Design Milk which is a media source I follow. The Adobe app allows you to scan the website you are on using your phone, and if the website has the dimensions of the product in question then it will capture an image of the product and scale it to the correct size, and display it in an augmented reality using your rear-facing camera. The best part is you can drag it around and compare its size to other things to test if the product will look good in your house or if it is the correct size for your house. Design milk has plenty of unique products especially for the kitchen so it would be a great idea for design milk to become compatible with this adobe product so the shoppers can be satisfied with their purchases and reduce return rates.
