Typeface

Typeface and fonts are pieces of media that get overlooked in my opinion 90% of the time. They have the ability to make or break the content it is a part of. My media sources use typefaces. The two mediums that have sufficient type are Kroudis and Meta.

Kroudis being a photo designer uses all sorts of fonts. after talking to him briefly about his font usage, he states he has been keen on using the typefaces Chakra Petch, and Redwing. Chakra Petch is a typeface with hard lines and edges with no curves. The letters are formed by straight lines that intersect with one another to create angles that create the letter. When Kroudis uses the Chakra typeface he is using the normal font or the bold font. I am unsure of the size of the font that he uses because I don’t have access to his files but the font is large therefore I would say over 48px. The typeface is also designed by a Thai developer so the glyphs include Thai letters with “circles” and curved type all made out of straight lines. Kroudis uses this typeface in his thumbnails for youtube. When reading the thumbnail I read the large title first and then my eyes are led to the smaller type underneath or above. Example: my eyes read “Last Ride” first in the first thumbnail, and then they go to the rest of the image.

Meta is formerly known as Facebook also uses its own unique typeface. This is important because when your brand logo is simply its name then its presentation has to be unique. The typeface that Meta uses is “Lto. Poligon Poligon Medium” I found the font just by looking up what they use on google. fontlot.com had the information and downloadable font available for me. The typeface isn’t anything crazy but it is professional and appealing. It is similar to basic fonts like Arial. The logo is in medium font-weight and has a different size depending on where you view it from. The typeface is nice but it isn’t flashy therefore my eyes go to the logo that is next to the type first. after seeing the logo my eyes then read “Meta”.
